I’m originally from Brazil and back there, we consider camping as something that’s primarily part the American culture. We see it in movies, magazines and books. Most of the Brazilian baby boomers have never had the opportunity to go camping, unless, they were a girl or a boy scout.
Don’t take me wrong. There’s camping in Brazil as you can from the picture. It started in 1966 with the creation of a club called “Camping Clube do Brasil”. So, to be able to go camping in Brazil, you need to either be a member of this club – which is pricy for most folks, or know someone who is. Anyone who’s a member can invite friends to come to a camp as guests.
There are also national parks in Brazil, but to get to them you need to have your own car and your camping gear which is not something financially feasible for the ordinary middle class population.
When I was 17 years old, I had the opportunity to go camping in Brazil because my neighbors happened to be members of the camping club. The following year, I came to The United States as an exchange student and for the next four years, I experienced several camping trips with my American host family.
Today, I’m married to an American who loves the outdoors: camping, hiking, backpacking… As we live in California, we usually go to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. In September, last year, we spent a pleasant weekend with some friends at the Sequoia campgrounds and visited the beautiful Crystal Cave.
There are lots of special and beautiful places where you can enjoy camping, hiking or backpacking in the United States and around the world. The national parks in the United States are certainly breathtaking, but Canada also offers many nature master pieces.
Outdoor activities are lots of fun, but can sometimes lead you to adversities. Have you ever heard of poison ivy? Well, it can literally be a pain. If you have an adventurous spirit, you need to know how to identify poison ivy and what to do if you get it. Have you ever heard that what you don’t know can hurt? It’s certainly true in this case.
Do enjoy the outdoors? Any site you would recommend? Your opinion is very much appreciated!

Hey Kelly, thanks for the visit and the comment. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Ligia, I had so much fun camping this year…I love everything about it! Especially cooking over the campfire. But this year was the first year I had a bad reaction to poison ivy…I heard you can be exposed to it again and again, and then suddenly –boom! The worst reaction. Next year we’re going to take extra precautions :) I’ve been camping every year from a few months old to 18 years old, and then not for a long time. Now I’m back in the swing of things!
